Robert Ellis has a sweet, slightly nasal tenor twang that could, if not cut entirely through glass, at least give it a good scratch. His lyrics are intelligent, poignant and sweet, and the musical lines are a cut above today's predictable (boring) commercial C&W tunes. He's an old-style country crooner. My favorite song on this album is "TV Song," about a young man whose heroes were television stars, probably because his character's father was absent in his childhood. I also enjoy "Still Crazy After All These Years," a completely different rendition than Paul Simon's original.I may be biased because I met Robert at Houston' International Festival a couple of years ago, and found him pleasant and polite toward his elder fan. But there's just something outside the box about this young man's music that captivates me even though I'm not at all enamored with today's C&W artists or music.
