Calliandra surinaminsis is commonly called Pink Powder Puff Tree or Rose Cascade. It is a fast growing member of the large Fabaceae Plant Family. Like many other plants of this genus, the pinnate leaves close together like praying hands at night. The prolific pink to white puff ball flowers are very attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. It is in heaviest bloom thru the spring to mid fall. The buds resemble small berries. It is an attractive single specimen plant. Being small in stature, with a somewhat horizontal growth habit makes it well suited for urban and small lot use. While it can be mass planted and hedged, there are better choices of the species for that use. The Rose Cascade Pink Powder Puff is frequent favorite choice for bonsai culture, as it's trunk and limbs remain flexible for an extended time and it can be successfully grown and will bloom indoors with the proper set up.

Calliandra surinaminsis is a fast, large growing flowering tree-like shrub that produces unusual berry-like buds open into unique pink puff ball flowers that are very attractive to wide variety of pollinators.
The unusual berry-like buds open into unique, nectar rich flowers made up of long filaments with golden tips in a perpetual bloom cycle that lasts throughout the warm season. The flowers provide a constant and nutritious food source food butterflies, but do not choose it as a host plant for caterpillars.
It is a fast growing plant that will quickly reach a mature height of 12 to 15 feet. The growth habit is upright and vertically branched. Limbs remain flexible and tend to droop at the ends giving a somewhat weeping appearance. It can also be trained as a single truck standard tree and is also a frequent choice for Bonsai culture or large potted garden specimens.
The best location for Rose Cascade Powder Puff is in full sun. However, young plants should be protected from over-heating, drying out and burning until well established. Special accommodations such as supplemental lighting, humidifiers or temperature control are usually necessary for successful growing indoors.
