I love these little things for their sheer versatility- You could attach a rubber/silicone hose to them instead of a water bottle and run the hose to a larger reservoir, for example, and through adjusting the spigot keep things at a nice slow drip.I put one of mine in a particularly troublesome pot I have- I piled the soil too high, meaning watering is usually a hassle since I have to water VERY SLOWLY to keep it from overflowing out of the pot before it can be soaked in. But with one of these spikes I can just pour water in through the bottom of the bottle I have inserted over the spike and let it drip slowly in while I go about my day. The little valves are simply awesome and can control output from a slow drip to a steady stream.One minor disadvantage are that they may not be super stable- the little plastic supports these come with are a nice thought, but I'm not sure they could hold a lot of weight, especially if your pot has soft soil. That said, that issue could be fixed by either 1, running tubing from a larger reservoir thus reducing the weight/strain on the spike or 2, using some wire to create a cage of sorts around the base of the spike to lend support.Another issue that is that if you cut the whole bottom of your water bottle off for ease of refilling like I did, you may experience some leakage/an imperfect seal between spike and bottle. This could be fixed with some wax or hot glue or other malleable substance it if became a problem for you.Overall though I am highly excited over the prospects for these as my plant collection (and thus maintenance) steadily grows.Thanks!
